I.              Clerk to the Board Ken Mecouch calls the meeting to order

and announces that adequate notice of this meeting was provided in accordance with Ch.231, P.L. 1975 (Senator Byron M. Baer Open Public Meetings Act).

Clerk to the Board Ken Mecouch recognizes Gary F. Simmerman as the Master of Ceremonies to preside over the 2015 Swearing-In Ceremony and Reorganization of the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Mr. Simmerman welcomed everyone and congratulated Freeholder Musso, Freeholder Sauro, newly elected Freeholder Daddario, County Clerk Celeste Riley and Sheriff Robert Austino.

Mr. Simmerman shared with the elected officials that they will be challenged with many issues throughout the year the will require planning, a good strategy and creative thinking to be successful.  Mr. Simmerman then recognized the elected officials in attendance and thanked them for taking the time to be present for this celebration. 

II.              Flag Salute - Erick & Victoria Lau

III.              Invocation - Rev. Ben Ocasio, The Rock of Salvation, Vineland, NJ

IV.              Certification of Election of Freeholder Carman Daddario by Theodore Baker, County Counsel.

V.              Freeholder Carman Daddario's Oath of Office by the Honorable Samuel Fiocchi, NJ Assemblyman, 1st District

VI.              Certification of Election of Freeholder Carol Musso by Theodore Baker, County Counsel.

VII.              Freeholder Carol Musso's Oath of Office by the Honorable Stephen Sweeney, NJ state Senate President.

 

VIII.              Certification of Election of Freeholder James Sauro by Theodore Baker, County Counsel.

IX.              Freeholder James Sauro's Oath of Office by the Honorable Samuel Fiocchi, NJ Assemblyman, 1st District.

X.              Certification of Election of Sheriff Robert Austino by Theodore Baker, County Counsel.

XI.              Sheriff Robert Austino's Oath of Office by the Honorable Jeff VanDrew, NJ State Senator.

XII.              Certification of Election of County Clerk Celeste Riley by Theodore Baker, County Counsel.

XIII.              County Clerk Celeste Riley's Oath of Office by the Honorable Stephen Sweeney, NJ State Senate President.

XIV.              Official Roll Call by the  Clerk to the Board.

Freeholder Barber, Freeholder Daddario, Freeholder Derella, Freeholder Long, Freeholder Musso, Freeholder Sauro and Freeholder Sheppard were all in attendance. 

XV.              Clerk asks for nominations for Director of the Board for the year 2015.

Freeholder Musso nominates Freeholder Derella, seconded by Freeholder Barber.  Freeholder Long moves nominations be closed.  Clerk to the Board calls roll.  Clerk to the Board  declares Freeholder Derella elected Director for the year 2015.

XVI.              Director asks for nominations for Deputy Director of the Board for the year 2015.

Freeholder Barber nominates Freeholder Long, seconded by Freeholder Musso.  Freeholder Sauro moves nominations be closed.  Clerk to the Board calls roll.  Director declares Freeholder Long  elected Deputy Director for the year 2015.

Director Derella asked if there were any Freeholder comments at this time. 

Freeholder Musso thanked everyone for attending and congratulated Carman, Jim, Sheriff Austino as well as Celeste Riley.  She also thanked her family for supporting her. 

Freeholder Daddario thanked his family for their support and said that he is looking forward to working with the Board.  He said he has met a lot of good people who are passionate about the County.  He will work hard to stay focused on promoting the positive as much as possible.

Freeholder Sauro said he is excited about being re-elected and thanked everyone for their support.  The thanked Rev. Ocasio for participating in the ceremony and thanked his wife for her support with his service in public office.  He said he believes it is important that the Board be open to new ideas and suggestions and said that Cumberland County is the greatest County is the State of New Jersey. 

Freeholder Barber thanked everyone for attending and encouraged the public to attend the Freeholder meetings whenever possible.  She said she looks forward to a progressive year. 

Freeholder Sheppard said that he believes it is important to have discussions in front of the public even when everyone agrees on the issue.  He wants to be sure the public understands that a lot of good thought and discussion has been placed on the issues. 

Deputy Director Long congratulated the Sheriff, the Clerk, as well as Freeholders Sauro and Daddario on their elections.  He said that he believes Freeholder Musso is one of the best Freeholders and he is very proud to serve with her.   He also told Freeholder Daddario that he was looking forward to working with him.

Director Derella thanked everyone for attending and especially Senator VanDrew, Assemblymen Andrzejcak and Fiocchi as well as Senate President Stephen Sweeney.  The Director said there are many positive initiatives moving forward in the County and he is looking forward to more progress.  He emphasized that it is important for each Board member to realize that they will not always agree and sometimes we will just need to agree to disagree.  He said there aremany challenges and the Board will deal with each one, one at a time.  He thanked everyone for attending and especially thanked the families of the elected officials for their understanding and patience to encourage public service.

XVII.              Entertain motion to adjourn this meeting to reconvene to Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 6:00 PM

at the Cumberland County Administration Building, 790 East Commerce Street, Bridgeton, New Jersey for the recovened annual organization meeting.

Deputy Long made a motion, seconded by Freeholder Sauro to adjourn at 6:55 P.M.  Approved 7-0 voice vote.
