WHEREAS, the County of Cumberland has consented to the purchase by the Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) of Block 187, Lots 69 and 70 located on South Burlington Road near the Southwoods State Prison for a new correctional facility and new inmate holding center; and

WHEREAS, the CCIA is desirous of hiring USA Architects of Somerville, New Jersey for the design of the new facility and inmate holding center; and

WHEREAS, USA Architects will provide all work,  including consultants (MEP, structural, etc.) for the design phase, preparation of construction documents, bidding phase and construction administration phase.                                                                                

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS OF THE COUNTY OF CUMBERLAND, as follows:

That this Board hereby authorizes the award of a contract to USA Architects by the CCIA for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereto for the contract period from award to completion of the project in the amount of $3,576,475 (Correctional Facility - $2,781,475 and Holding Center - $795,000.00) with the total estimated construction cost in the range of $49,200,000 to $55,350,000 which is based on a per foot cost of $400.00 to $450.00 per square foot construction cost.

Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Board of Chosen Freeholders held at the Cumberland County Administration Building, 164 West Broad Street, Bridgeton, New Jersey on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. prevailing time.

Freeholder Sauro asked if the names of the other architects that were considered could be obtained. Clerk to the Board Ken Mecouch said that he would reach out to the CCIA to obtain that information.
